Due to the nature of the care delivered at the hospital, all volunteers are asked to take a few minutes to review the requirements and explore the steps involved in being a volunteer at WSH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Requirements<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be 16 years or older<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pass a background check<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pass drug test<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit completed volunteer application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1: Before You Apply<\/strong><br>Review the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dbhds.virginia.gov\/facilities\/wsh\/volunteer-opportunities\/\">Volunteer Opportunities<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dbhds.virginia.gov\/facilities\/wsh\/volunteer-faqs\/\">Volunteer FAQs<\/a>\u00a0pages before applying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2:\u00a0 Submit Application<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/dbhds.virginia.gov\/facilities\/wsh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2023\/04\/WSH-Form-No-70.doc\">Download the volunteer application<\/a>\u00a0and submit it one of two ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By email:&nbsp; tina.kincaid@dbhds.virginia.gov<br>By fax:&nbsp; 540.332.8014<br>By Mail:&nbsp;<br>Volunteer Services Director<br>Western State Hospital<br>PO Box 2500<br>Staunton VA&nbsp; 24402<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 3:&nbsp; Interview<\/strong><br>Once your application has been reviewed, Tina Kincaid, Volunteer Services Director, will contact you for an interview.&nbsp; Please be aware that interviews generally take 15 minutes and enables the director to discuss your schedule and your interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 4:&nbsp; Orientation<\/strong><br>If you are accepted into the WSH Volunteer Program, you will be invited to attend an orientation session.&nbsp; Orientations are approximately an hour long, and go over WSH and Volunteer Department policies, procedures and other important information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 5:&nbsp; Screenings<\/strong><br>&nbsp;After orientation, you will be required to complete criminal background and drug screening.&nbsp; For volunteers interested working sixteen (16) or more hours, a tuberculosis screening is required prior to volunteer service.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THANK YOU for your interest in volunteering at Western State Hospital!
