LHRC – Local Human Rights Committees

The function of the LHRC ensures due process for the individuals within our service delivery system which helps us to assure rights protection for each individual receiving services. These committees are made up of volunteers across the Commonwealth who serve in their respective regions. Appointed by the SHRC, each committee, which meets at least once per quarter, is comprised of at least five members who review provider requests and conduct fact-finding hearings all in an effort to assure the rights of individuals receiving services

Virginia Code § 37.1-84.3 regulates the appointment of Health Care Providers to the State Human Rights Committee and to Local Human Rights Committees (beginning July 1, 2005). For more information, please see the memorandum here.

SHRC – State Human Rights Committee

The SHRC, which consists of nine members appointed by the State Board, oversees the operation of the LHRCs. Additionally, the SHRC works with the State Human Rights Director to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Office of Human Rights concerning the Human Rights Regulations and other laws, policies, or regulations that are needed to ensure the protection of individual’s rights.
