General Information
Admission to Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute shall conform with state laws and regulations, and policies duly adopted by the State Behavioral Health and Developmental Services Board, and by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. Any person admitted to Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute shall be accorded treatment and care without regard to race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, age, or physical handicap.
Criteria for Admission
If an adult arrives at this facility requesting admission, the Admissions Office staff will call the Unit Programs Director, Unit Nurse Coordinator or designee, who will assess the individual, then call the Community Services Board to facilitate a mental health evaluation/screening. The CSB, along with the facility representative, will work to coordinate either an on-site evaluation or transportation of the individual to the location designated by the Community Services Board staff member.
