Volunteer Services

Volunteers play a crucial role in Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute programs and Volunteer Services ability to improve the lives of those suffering from mental illness. Volunteers embody hope, empowerment, self-responsibility and life fulfillment. Our volunteers learn new skills, make new friends, and make a lasting difference in a person’s life. Become a volunteer today!

Types of volunteers

  • Regular volunteers perform administrative tasks or participate in interactions with individuals on a consistent basis.
  • Group volunteers consist of church, civic, and student groups who come to help with an event such as holiday parties, concerts, social hour or special project.
  • Fundraiser volunteers help identify and raise funds for special needs that NVMHI has.

Current Volunteer Needs:

The Recovery Support Committee is seeking enthusiastic, caring volunteers to assist with hospital wide events. Duties will include planning and organizing special events, such as seasonal celebrations, sporting events, and other programming to enhance recovery.  Please be prepared to devote 4-6 hours during the month when an activity has been planned. Your gift of time makes a difference for our peers!

To become a volunteer you must be at least 18 years old. There is an application process that includes a background check, TB test and drug test. We provide an orientation and on the job training. NVMHI is a tobacco, drug, alcohol free campus.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email an Application to Volunteer Services at (NVMHI.Volunteers@dbhds.virginia.gov)
