Inpatient Services

HWDMC Physical Therapy (PT) staff provide services to a very unique and challenging population. We provide skilled services for residents experiencing an acute medical situation (stroke, fractures, joint replacements, etc.) which may have resulted in decline in ability to function. We serve our in-house residents by providing range of motion, mobility skills, and wheelchair assessments/maintenance to help maintain optimal wheelchair positioning to provide safe access to their home and community.

HWDMC Physical Therapy Staff are instrumental in providing education in resident mobility to fellow staff and family to promote a team approach through multi-disciplined involvement to meet resident needs.

Outpatient Services

HWDMC Physical Therapy Department staff provide outpatient services for Central State Hospital (CSH) and the Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation (VCBR). Our services include: treatment of traditional orthopedic issues that affect joint or the musculoskeletal system, injuries that limit the patient’s mobility and safety that may affect coordination and/or balance, requiring the need for assistive devices. We focus on facilitating safety with mobility to improve the patient’s quality of life and ability to access their community safely.
