The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), enacted in 1990, provides civil rights protections to persons with disabilities in the areas of employment, state and local government services, access to public accommodations, transportation and telecommunications. The ADA mandates that qualified individuals with disabilities be provided with the same opportunities that are available to persons without disabilities and is a companion civil rights legislation to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
